TOP TOUR CLEANING & NIPFJÄLLET

Welcome to the top hiking course in Idre/Grövelsjöfjällen. Top Tour Course — Level 1 is aimed at those who want to develop basic skills and abilities for top touring on their own. During the course, we will visit three different mountain areas, which means that you will also get some local knowledge of what Fjätervålen, Idre and Grövelsjöfjällen have to offer regarding ski touring.

It is pleasing to see that interest in summit tours is increasing and through our courses we want to help more people gain skills that lead to good peak touring days and where conscious decisions can be made to minimise the risks that exist in peak touring environments. We tour at a leisurely pace and have a focus on safety, technology and developing your skills. During the three days, you will learn

  • Trip planning based on your and your friends' goals and abilities, weather conditions, snow conditions, avalanche risks and time.
  • Equipment, what is needed and why as well as tips for adjusting, repairing, etc
  • Navigation with map, compass and apps in your phone.
  • What is an avalanche? What is avalanche terrain and how can we minimize risks when traveling on the mountain
  • How do we operate and use avalanche equipment before and during the trip and in the event that people fall into an avalanche.
  • Knowledge of 3 hiking areas in the northern Dalafjällen

This is the course for those who want to have hiking as a lovely and fun activity, develop good routines to take it further on your own level together with family and friends.

Prior knowledge

For participation, you do not need any previous knowledge of summit touring. We avoid steep skiing and if you normally feel comfortable riding on pistes with red markings then you can do this. Skiing off-piste can be a challenge depending on the snow quality and the guide teaches the best technique, we make sure we have time for everyone to ski down safely.

Equipment

General advice and tips

Equipment is available for rent in Fjätervålen ski shop, Idre Fjäll and Grövelfjäll.
Dress according to the layer-by-layer method with woolen or synthetic underwear closest to the body. Preferably choose several thin layers that you can easily adjust as top turning can mean a large variation in heat and cold. At breaks and stops for exercises, it is good to have a lined jacket that you can pull on over your shell clothes. Gloves get cold easily and they get sweaty so bring a pair of extra and preferably warm mittens. The lunch bag for the day should be able to be eaten without cooking. Sandwich, snack or a food thermos with your favorite is perfect together with any drink in a thermos or water bottle.

About Svanerud Guiding

Since 2018 we live at the foot of the mountain Fjätervålen close to the kind of nature we love to travel and stay in. Fjätervålen can be found north of Idre near the border with Härjedalen. We ourselves think that this is a prefect base for adventures along the Scandinavian mountain chain and its surrounding forests.

**THE WAY HERE? **

It is difficult to summarize how it is that today I live and work in the mountains as a guide, ski instructor and more or less full-time I devote myself to outdoor activities. A big contributor in addition to my passion for it are the people around me who have contributed in many different ways and others I have met who have inspired, shared their knowledge and sometimes opened doors. The fact that I also have a wife, Elin, who has as much interest in this as I do is absolutely crucial to the fact that today we live and live at the foot of the mountain Fjäervåle. Elin is my best adventure companion. My mother, who for much of my upbringing was the one who created the opportunity for me to devote myself to sports and outdoor activities, however, laid the foundation for everything I do now. Don't know how she managed it and my awareness of this has grown the older I've gotten. Through a developing career path from carpenter, university studies, real estate engineer, manager in various companies, part-time guiding to the fact that today I am almost full-time dedicated to guiding, ski coaching and other outdoor activities is magical for me and I am so grateful that my life is filled with days like these.
